The KeyStone Neighborhood Association exists to:
1) Strengthen a Strong Sense of Community among our Residents by
- providing two General Meetings a year where all residents are encouraged to attend: a picnic at Lincoln Park (Summer) and a Pizza Party at St. John's Lutheran Church (Fall)
- organizing Neighborhood Block Clubs
- organizing Neighborhood Watch Programs
- participating in the East Side Neighborhood Fair
- coordinating Friends of Longfellow School to provide volunteers to support the school's activities
- providing KeyStone Street Banners on major thoroughfares
- providing Emblems of the KeyStone logo on all street posts
- providing KeyStone House Flags to residents at a modest price
- participating in Annual Xstream Cleanup in problem areas in our neighborhood (http://www.xstreamcleanup.org)
2) Increase a Strong Positive View of the Neighborhood by means of
- a useful and attractive website for the KeyStone Neighborhood
- a KeyStone Neighborhood Association Brochure to introduce others to KeyStone
- a KeyStone Neighborhood Driving Tour Booklet
- a newsletter, i.e., KeyStone News, delivered free to residents and businesses three times a year
3) Develop Useful Relationships with Other Neighborhood Organizations by
- providing assistance for both the Old Chicago Neighborhood Association and Moline's Floreciente Neighborhood Association regarding Street Banners
- distributing the KeyStone Newsletter to other Neighborhood Associations in Rock Island and Moline
- providing technical assistance and volunteers to Hidalgo Adopt-A-Park Group (McCandless Park, Moline), providing representatives to the City of Rock Island Neighborhood Partners and to its various Task Forces (e.g., Neighborhood Leadership, School-Community, and Problem Properties)
- sending a representative to the Neighborhoods USA Conference in Kansas City, KN in May, 2006
4) Improve the Visual Appearance of All Parts of our Neighborhood by
- providing Beautification Awards to KeyStone residents and businesses
- providing a Free Plant Exchange at East End Neighborhood Fair
- providing a Marigold Plant Give-Away Program at Longfellow School's Ice Cream Social
- participating in Rock Island's Adopt-A-Street Program by adopting 44th Street for clean-up four times a year
- assisting with Hidalgo Adopt-A-Park Group's "Kids Plant the Park Day" at Moline's McCandless Park
- making residents aware of City of Rock Island Programs by, for example, inviting members of City Government and the Rock Island Police to speak at General Meetings
- providing support for projects that enhance the visual quality, safety, economic development, and affordability of housing in our neighborhood and community at-large, for example, writing letters of support to appropriate government funding sources for new housing construction behind Longfellow school (2004)
5) Promote and Develop Educational Programs for the Neighborhood Residents by
- providing Renter's Rights & Responsibilities Workshops
- providing Free Garden Workshops
- participating in Augustana College's Student In-service Programs entitled Transitions: Moving Off-Campus and Establishing Yourself in a New Community: Neighbor Relations
